A Japanese garden outside the Community Campus provides a tranquil spot for rest and reflection. The garden was created in memory of Patti Wilder, wife of one of the Foundation's founding Trustees, G. Warren Wilder. For many years, Patti served the community as a nurse and volunteer for Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

History of the Foundation for Seacoast Health
The Foundation acted as a catalyst for positive change, promoting a wide range of creative initiatives to improve the health and well-being of Seacoast area residents. In its first decade of grantmaking, the Foundation awarded over $6.8 million in grants to Seacoast nonprofits, and close to $1 million in scholarships to students pursuing health-related careers. By the end of 2006, the Foundation had awarded over $24 million in grants and over $2 million in scholarships - not including the capital investment and ongoing operational costs related to the Community Campus. In 1995, the Foundation received an additional $20 million from HCA, fulfilling the terms of its 1985 contract. This addition to our endowment, along with positive growth in our investments, gave the Foundation the financial resources to take another bold step forward with the development of the Community Campus.
The Era of the Community CampusIn the mid 1990s, the Foundation embarked on a different approach to improving the community health and well-being with the decision to invest a major portion of the Foundation's resources in the creation of a center for health-related programs and community activities. Our goal was to create a safety net of health care and support for the seacoast community and to foster greater collaboration among the community agencies serving our most vulnerable residents: children, adolescents, people with disabilities and the medically indigent.
In 1998, the Trustees celebrated the groundbreaking of the Community Campus, a state of the art facility housing nine nonprofit agencies. We invite you to learn by visiting the Community Campus Web site.
